Elizabeth S. Ennis
I am a costume designer, educator, and a recent East Coast transplant to Nebraska!
While pursuing a BA in musical theatre at American University, I realized that my true passion was for the work that happens behind the scenes. Building on my experience as a seamstress and a visual artist, I pursued a career in costume design. After graduating from American, I freelanced in the DC area as a designer, stitcher, and dresser, working with several professional companies including Shakespeare Theater Company, Synetic Theater, WSC Avant Bard, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
In 2015 I relocated to Philadelphia to pursue my MFA in Costume Design at Temple University, where I designed five mainstage shows including my thesis production, Romeo and Juliet. After graduating in 2018, I worked for four years as the Artist in Costumes for the theatre department at Susquehanna University and continued freelance design work with Theatre Horizon, Act II Playhouse, and the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. Now, I am thrilled to be exploring the theatre scene of the Midwest, while working as an Assistant Professor of Costume Design for Nebraska Wesleyan University.
I am a 2019 Barrymore Award nominee in the category of Outstanding Costume Design for my work on Theatre Horizon's The Color Purple.
